The Petřín funicular resumes service with new cabins on Tuesday, September 22.

The wait is finally over: the Petřín funicular is returning to service with a completely new look. The track has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, and the line will be served by two panoramic cars from the Swiss manufacturer Doppelmayr, featuring a design by Anna Marešová. They will enter regular service on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, following a two-year suspension.
The resumption of service will not only make the funicular more attractive but will also bring changes to the fare structure and certain operational details. For instance, on the descent from Petřín to Újezd, the funicular will no longer stop at Nebozízek, thereby eliminating one stop per trip. This will speed up the rotation of the cars, ultimately increasing passenger capacity.
The fare structure is also changing. There are no changes for passengers with prepaid passes; holders of Prague monthly, quarterly, or annual passes can continue to use the funicular without restriction. Similarly, no additional purchase is required for those holding a one-day or three-day ticket or a Prague Visitor Pass. The funicular remains free for children under 15, seniors over 65, and other groups entitled to free public transport in Prague.
Conversely, the single fare is increasing to CZK 100 (CZK 90 via the PID Lítačka app); prior to the renovation, it cost CZK 60. Although the stations will not be fully accessible when the funicular reopens, accessibility upgrades are planned by 2030. Following lengthy discussions—particularly with the owners of the building at Újezd where the lower station is located—project planning is now underway. This will be followed by property rights settlement, contractor selection, and the actual construction work scheduled for 2029–2030.
