Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Discounted Travel

I am over 65 years old; do I travel in Prague (P, 0, B) for free?

On regular public transport services in Prague — that is, in the metro, trams, buses, trolleybuses, or on ferries — any passenger aged 65 or older can travel completely free of charge; in the event of a ticket inspection, it is sufficient to present an ID card or passport. Different rules apply only on trains, where a special pass or its electronic alternative is required for travel without an additional ticket. A completely separate category consists of special tariff routes, such as the Airport Express bus line connecting Prague Main Railway Station with the airport, historic tram lines 41 to 43, and the historic bus line K. This benefit also applies to passengers from abroad.

Does a holder of a ZTP or ZTP/P card have any benefits on public transport in Prague?

Yes, based on a ZTP or ZTP/P card, it is possible to travel within Prague’s city transport completely free of charge. In the event of a check, it is enough to show a valid ZTP or ZTP/P card. This benefit applies only to cards issued in the Czech Republic — it does not apply on trains.

Why are student discounts not recognized in Prague for single tickets?

Discounts in suburban transport are decided by the state through the Ministry of Transport and the Central Bohemian Region, while discounts in Prague are decided by the Prague City Hall. Both have different priorities for favoring different groups of passengers and different financial capacities to compensate carriers for each discount — it’s not just about the decision itself. Passengers aged 15 to 26 have discounts only on prepaid fares, not on single tickets. However, in Prague, prepaid fares are significantly reduced, so they pay off after just three round trips to the city per month.

Transport Conditions

Can a bus driver refuse to carry a passenger with a dog if there is already one dog on board?

PID transport conditions allow the transport of only one dog per platform. An exception is when two dogs are being transported by the same passenger, or if a stroller is already being transported.

How are request stops handled in PID?

Since 2024, all bus and trolleybus stops within the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system have been standardized as “request stops.” Passengers must signal their intention to get off in good time by pressing the button on board; when boarding, it is enough to stand visibly in the stop area so that the driver has time to react to the passenger’s request to board. The aim of this change is to speed up transport, reduce fuel consumption, and increase travel comfort. The change applies to both urban and suburban lines throughout the PID system.

What are the rules for eating and drinking on board?

In public transport, it is forbidden to eat and drink, as well as to bring beverages in open containers or unwrapped food (except on trains), in order to maintain cleanliness and comfort for all passengers. The driver has the right to refuse travel to passengers who violate this rule, as they are responsible for safety and order on board.

How to know if your cup is suitable for transport?
Simple test: turn the cup upside down. If the liquid does not spill, it means it is properly closed and suitable for transport.

PID Lítačka App

Payment was deducted in the PID Lítačka app for a ticket purchase, but the ticket did not arrive. Can I claim a refund?

Of course. In this case, we recommend contacting the electronic ticketing system operator within the Prague Integrated Transport network, the city company Operátor ICT. You can reach them by email at info@pidlitacka.cz or via the information line at +420 246 030 970 (weekdays 8:00–16:00).

I cannot buy a discounted season ticket in the PID Lítačka app. What should I do?

The app is primarily set up for standard fares (without discounts). If a passenger is eligible for a discount and has already provided proof, they need to visit one of the PID ticket offices once to verify the discount, after which it will be applied in the app. For future purchases, visiting the office in person is no longer necessary. For the Student 18–26 tariff, eligibility for discounts must be documented separately for each school/academic year. This can all be done online by adding the ISIC card number to the user profile.

Card Payment

When paying in public transport, the charges do not match the trips made, or only 1 CZK was deducted?

When purchasing tickets by card, it may happen that a small amount, for example 1 CZK, is temporarily deducted from your account. This is a standard security procedure by the bank to verify that the card is active. This amount is only temporary and is automatically refunded during final settlement.

It may also happen that if you make multiple trips over several days, the bank combines multiple payments into one. Instead of seeing several individual charges, you will see a single total amount. For example, instead of two separate payments of 70 CZK and 40 CZK, you may see one payment of 110 CZK.

This behavior depends entirely on your bank’s settings and cannot be influenced by us. It is not an error, but a normal method of processing payments used by banks for efficiency and cost savings.

On a bus, the card terminal did not work. Does the driver have the right to refuse transport?

Card payment is not guaranteed. The ability to pay by card on board is an optional service, not an obligation. Just like in a store – if the terminal does not work, you don’t get your purchase for free. The same applies in transport. If payment by card is not possible for technical reasons, the passenger must use another payment method – for example, cash, the PID Lítačka mobile app, or another available option. If the passenger is unable to pay by any method, the driver has full right to refuse transport.

The PID Lítačka mobile app is the official tool for traveling within the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system. It allows users to easily search for connections, view real-time departures from nearby stops, purchase single or short-term tickets, and manage prepaid coupons. The app also provides information about service disruptions, helps plan trips with transfers, and allows saving favorite routes. Thanks to integration with a PID Lítačka account, everything can be conveniently managed in one place – from travel documents to trip history. The app is available for free on both Android and iOS and is regularly updated to meet passengers’ needs.

You can find more information about the application at here.
