Prague is connected with the Central Bohemian region by a network of commuter trains. These offer a quick way to travel not only across Prague’s borders, but within the city as well.
Trains where PID fare applies are operating under S lines (stopping everywhere) and R lines (rapid).

Fare
Trains are a part of the same fare system as trams, metro, buses with some exceptions.
Apart form the Lítačka electronic ticket, using paper tickets is also possible. You can buy paper tickets in advance and then stamp them on your way back.
More on buying tickets on the railway. It may not be possible to buy PID fare at all stops. If there is not a ticket office desk at the train stop, you can buy the ticket on board of the train from the train conductor (or train driver on the small trains) without a surcharge. Ask for a PID ticket specifically because the conductors sell the train operator’s fare by default.
Exceptions
PID fare is applicable only on train sections incorporated into the PID system – this concerns long distance trains that reach out of PID region and local trains near PID system borders. Check the timetables (the Tarifní pásmo signifies the zone number, if it is empty “–”, that stop is not in PID system) or the map for the extent of PID service.
Using a PID ticket
You can use all valid PID tickets if they are valid for the intended journey in terms of zone and time validity:
- A paper ticket from a ticket machine, PID/DPP ticket counter, bus driver – if the tickets has no time indicated on it, it needs to be stamped. Stamping machines are either on or near train platforms or on board of some trains – check the map
- PID ticket purchased at the train station in the ČD ticket office – this ticket does not need to be stamped. The ticket is valid from the time and fare zone of purchase, or you can ask for a different beginning of validity.
- Ticket purchased from the train crew – this ticket does not need to be stamped, it is valid from the time and zone of boarding the train (a surcharge is added if the stop where you boarded has an opened ticket office
- Ticket purchased in the mobile app Lítačka – the ticket must be activated in the app at least one minute before the train’s arrival.
The following tickets and discounts are not valid in PID trains:
- SMS ticket
- Discount for a person accompanying a child 0–3 years old.
- Free carriage of dogs
On which stations I can buy tickets?
The PID system includes only passenger and express trains and selected fast and express lines – always only 2nd carriage class. On integrated lines and sections, in addition to the carrier’s tariff, PID travel documents can also be used.

If for any reason it is not possible to stamp a PID ticket, the passenger is must obtain a ticket according to the PID or railway carrier’s fare, sale of tickets on the train with a possible handling surcharge.

Leisure trains
Take a vintage sightseeing train on the most beautiful railway route of Prague – the so called Prague Semmering with beautiful views on Prague. Pražský motoráček (route number T1) is active every weekend all-year round. Regular PID fare applies. During other times, you can ride line S65 on the the same route operated by regular motor units.
Have a fun weekend on the Cyklohráček train. Visit the Okoř Castle ruins (closest stop: Noutonice), the water park in Slaný or the railway museum in Zlonice. Whatever your destination, children can enjoy numerous activities on board of the train: ball pit, board games, toys, building blocks, swing. Regular PID fare applies, no surcharges.
