Where to buy tickets

Tickets with time validity up to 3 days (72 hours) can be used in Prague as well as in the Central Bohemian region. These tickets are available in classical paper form or electronic form in the Lítačka app.

Ticket machines

Paper tickets can be bought in the following types of ticket machines. They sell almost all types of tickets.

Ticket machine type Tickets sold Payments options Photo
Button-operated ticket machine Full-price and half-price tickets for Prague and Region Coins only (CZK)
Touchscreen ticket machine Full-price and half-price tickets for Prague and the Region Coins (CZK), contactless and some allow chip payment cards
Tickets from button or touchscreen ticket machines must be validated (stamped) in a ticket validator before entering the subway platform or immediately after boarding a bus or tram! Tickets must be validated (stamped) exactly once, on the first use, otherwise the ticket is invalid!
Touchscreen terminal Full-price and half-price tickets for Prague Contactless payments only
Tickets from the touchscreen terminal have their validity already printed on them, therefore they are valid immediately from the time of purchase and need not be validated anymore.

Ticket offices and information centers

Information centers and ticket offices sell 30 minute, 90 minute, 24 hour and 72 hour tickets for Prague and their half-priced complements. These tickets must be validated (stamped) in a ticket validator before entering the subway platform or immediately after boarding a bus or tram! Tickets must be validated (stamped) exactly once, on the first use, otherwise the ticket is invalid!

Ticket counters of České dráhy

České dráhy railway carrier sells all types of short-term tickets for Prague and the Region. When buying a ticket from a railway ticket counter, specifically ask for a PID ticket. Tickets from the ticket office are valid from the moment of purchase, have their validity already printed on them, therefore they don’t have to be validated anymore.

Payment is possible both by cash and cards.

Trams, urban buses, trolleybuses (Prague transport)

In trams, urban buses and trolleybuses, a touchscreen terminal sells full-price and /half-price tickets for Prague with the time validity of 30 minutes, 90 minutes or 24 hours. These tickets are valid from the moment of purchase, have their validity already printed on them, therefore they don’t have to be validated anymore. The terminal accepts only contactless payments.

In urban buses and trollybuses, the terminal is always located by the second door. In trams, the terminal is located at the middle door of the vehicle.

Urban buses and trolleybuses: Second door

Trams: Middle door

Suburban/regional buses (Region)

On suburban buses, boarding is only possible through the front door. (In Prague [zones P,0,B] in the direction to the city center, passengers with an already valid ticket can board through any door.). The driver checks tickets during boarding. If the passenger does not have a ticket, they can purchase a ticket from the driver. In suburban/regional buses the driver accepts coins and banknotes up to 200 CZK and contactless payment cards. Tickets from the driver are valid from the moment of purchase, have their validity already printed on them, therefore they don’t have to be validated anymore.

Trains

On trains operated by carriers České dráhy, KŽC Doprava, Die Länderbahn CZ and on route S49 it is possible to buy a ticket from the train conductor. When buying a ticket from the conductor, specifically ask for a PID ticket. Tickets from the train conductor are valid from the moment of purchase, have their validity already printed on them, therefore they don’t have to be validated anymore.
ATTENTION: If the passenger travels from station with an opened ticket counter, the train conductor may impose a charge on the fare according to the fare of the railway carrier, so preferably purchase tickets at the ticket counters.

Stations with a ticket counter are underlined in the following map:

Validating the ticket

To use a ticket, it must be validated – it must have the start of validity and fare zone printed on it. Tickets sold on board of vehicles, touchscreen terminals and railway ticker counters are valid immediately from the moment of purchase and you don’t have to do anything else with them.
Tickets sold from ticket machines, information centres and ticket offices must be validated on entering the vehicle or the subway paid area! The subway paid area is commonly marked by a white line on the ground and accompanied by stamping validation machines.
Tickets must be validated (stamped) exactly once, on the first use, otherwise the ticket is invalid!

Tickets must be validated facing up in the direction of the arrow as shown in the video below.

PID Lítačka mobile app

All types of tickets can also be purchased in the Lítačka mobile application available for Android and iOS. You can also search for connections, buy a long-term ticket, pay for parking and more.

ATTENTION: For security reasons, all tickets purchased through Lítačka app become valid 2 minutes after their activation. During these two minutes, the ticket is active (it cannot be canceled), but it not valid yet. If a passenger enters a vehicle/paid area in the subway with an active ticket within the two-minute activation period, they may be fined by ticket inspectors. Please activate the ticket well before the arrival of the vehicle.

The ticket in the app can be purchased with the following activation modes:

  • Manually: The ticket will be stored inactive in reserve. When you will need to use the ticket, you can activate it manually. This is similar to buying a paper ticket in advance.
  • Immediately after purchase: The ticket will be activated (it cannot be canceled) immediately after purchase, however, it will be valid after 2 minutes from its activation.
  • At a pre-planned time: When buying the ticket, you can specify the time, when the ticket will be valid. The ticket will be activated (it cannot be canceled) at a certain time. If the chosen time is less than 2 minutes after purchased, there will be an activation period just as described in the paragraph above.

The mobile application must have an internet connection when paying for the ticket and when activating the ticket. Once activated, a ticket (with the countdown going on) does not need internet connection to be valid.
