Cyclists in the Prague Integrated Transport system (PID)
Prague Integrated Transport also thinks about cyclists, and so allows bikes to be carried in PID vehicles. In Prague, bikes can be carried on the metro, on trains, on selected sections of tram lines, on cable cars and on ferries. On bus routes, bikes can only be carried on bus no. 147 (they are placed on a special frame at the back of the bus). Bikes are carried free of charge within Prague, on trains only if the passenger has a valid PID travel document or is entitled to free carriage.
In the region, bikes can only be carried on trains and on non-working days on selected bus lines that offer the carriage of bikes (see below). This carriage is for a fee – on trains according to the PID Tariff or the railway carrier’s tariff, on buses according to the PID Tariff.
Bikes cannot be carried when demand is high. Be considerate when carrying a bike; how other passengers and carriers view the carriage of bikes on the PID mostly depends on compliance with the conditions and the behaviour of the cyclists themselves.
The conditions for carrying bikes also apply to scooters, unicycles and electric bikes and scooters, as well as vehicles of similar design and weight with an auxiliary electric propulsion system (if their dimensions exceed the conditions for the carriage of luggage). Folding bikes, folding scooters, children’s bikes and balance bikes for children up to 6 years of age may be carried in accordance with the conditions applicable for luggage (i.e. on all PID vehicles).
Metro
On the metro, except for the first platform directly behind the driver, bikes may be carried on each of the first and last platforms of each carriage (maximum of two bikes per platform). Bikes can be carried on the metro free of charge.
Bikes can be transported using selected lifts at metro stations – currently Anděl, Bořislavka, Černý Most, Háje, Chodov, Karlovo náměstí, Ládví, Letňany, Národní třída, Nemocnice Motol, Opatov, Palmovka, Pankrác, Petřiny, Prosek, Roztyly, Skalka, Střížkov. These lifts are marked with a blue bike pictogram.
Tips for placing bikes:
- in all carriages of the train on the right-hand side of the designated platforms (take care in stations with side platforms – Hlavní nádraží, Prosek, Rajská zahrada, Střížkov, Vyšehrad)
- in the last carriage of the train, bikes can also be placed along the rear wall of the last platform, the further to the right of the carriage, the better
- on lines A and B, the two outermost carriages also have more space at the opposite end (where there is no driver’s cab)
The inner (i.e. second and third) platforms of all carriages and the first platform of the whole train are not to be used to carry bikes. The reason for this is to allow other passengers to move around the carriages, or for the driver to enter the passenger compartment in an emergency.
Railways
All lines included in the PID are served by vehicles capable of carrying bikes. Large numbers of bikes can be carried in particular by services (lines) hauled by electric locomotives or with extra sets for carrying bikes.
Prague (zones P, 0, B)
For passengers with a valid PID travel document (or a document allowing free carriage according to the PID Tariff), the carriage of bikes as carry-on luggage is free of charge within the territory of Prague (zones P, 0 and B).
The Region (zones 1-13)
For passengers with a valid PID travel document outside Prague (zones 1-13), the carriage of bikes is charged according to the PID Tariff, as follows:
- CZK 30 (valid for 120 min. from purchase)
- CZK 80 (valid until 4:00 a.m. of the day after purchase)
- or according to the rail carrier’s tariff
PID tickets for the carriage of bikes can also be easily purchased via the PID Lítačka app.

More information about running times and the timetable.
Trams
Bikes can only be carried on trams in selected sections running away from the centre (no time limit). Bikes can be carried on trams free of charge.
This symbol indicates the stops where passengers can board the tram with a bike (under the conditions specified in the Contractual Conditions of Carriage). |
List of sections where the carriage of bikes is permitted
Bikes may only be carried in spaces designated for the carriage of strollers (usually at the end of the carriage on shorter trams, or on one or more interior platforms on articulated trams). A maximum of 2 bikes may be carried on each such platform. Before boarding and leaving the tram, the passenger with the bike shall signal to the driver, who may, however, not permit boarding in justified cases.

Bikes cannot be carried on buses (even on substitute services), with the following exceptions.

From the end of March to the end of October, bus no. 147 on the Dejvická – Výhledy route allows passengers to carry bikes in special holders at the back of the bus on selected routes, free of charge. Bikes can only be carried on buses running away from the centre. Cyclists can load their bikes at the Dejvická (transfer from the metro) and V Podbabě (transfer from the ferry) stops and then unload them at the Suchdolské náměstí and Výhledy stops. Services for cyclists (every second service on working days, every service connection on non-working days) are marked in the timetable with a bike pictogram, from approx. 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Before boarding, the passenger with the bike raises a hand to signal to the driver, loads the bike (under the driver’s supervision) and tells the driver the stop they want to get off at. The driver then locks the bike and hands the passenger a tag with the holder number. On alighting, the passenger presents the tag with the holder number, the driver unlocks the bike and the passenger unloads it.
